The Great Thief

Chapter 659: Devour

A few other seeds appeared in Lu Li’s hands.

The biggest seed was from Bathran; Lu Li had obtained it from a quest.

Bathran was the unlucky one that had died in its sleep. It had actually participated in many wars to protect the forests of Azeroth.

Treants lived long lives and they were often very friendly with Elves. Lu Li had helped Bathran complete some quests, so it gave the its seed to Lu Li when it passed away.

It seemed like all plant-type organisms reproduced with seeds.

There were also other smaller seeds which Lu Li had obtained from Hinterlands when he was inside the trial tower.

As he held everything in his palms, the World Tree seed in his right hand began to hunger for the seeds in his left hand.

Lu Li couldn’t hear the voice of the seed, but he could understand what it meant.

The voice was saying that it was hungry!

Lu Li hesitated for a bit and stored the other seeds away, apart from a very average Cannibal Vine seed.

Lu Li was reminded of the event where he had let guild members attempt to clear a ruin as he looked at it. His loot from that event was quite good, but they wouldn’t receive as many rewards as he did. Even so, if everyone improved a bit from the experience, the overall gain would be too great to ignore.

Unfortunately, that place was too dangerous – even Lu Li hadn’t found it easy.

If he was going to form a group for an event like this, he would have to bring Sesame Rice Ball, who was a Warlock that couldn’t stealth.

The difficulty level...it was insane just thinking about it!

Those level 50 monsters could kill anyone.

Clearing out the map with sheer numbers wasn’t possible either. Even after the players reached level 50, everyone would still have trouble clearing the map.

Lu Li had seen an event related to this concept in his previous life.

The major guild that wanted to clear out the map was called Brotherhood. That event was one of a few that had led to the downfall of the guild – all players who participated in it died at least two times.

Lu Li had mainly run into level 40 monsters last time, along with a few level 55 monsters, but nothing higher than that.

If there were more than ten players in the map, the spawns would likely change.

Even during the time when Lu Li had reincarnated, that forest was never an easy place to come and go as players pleased.

Can you imagine what it was like to see level 50 and 60 monsters all spawn out at once?

It was like facing the Knights of the Tauren, or the sentinel troops of the Night Elves.

It was simply too much for the players to handle.

There was a chance that information might have been spilled if he only told Thief players within the guild. The route that Lu Li took was a safer route that the players would find a year later.

He could only wait for a safer way to bring Sesame Rice Ball there in the future.

Lu Li brought the seed of the Cannibal Vine next to the World Tree seed. The World Tree seed immediately flashed a green light and absorbed the seed of the Cannibal Vine. From its outward appearance, it seemed as if the green Cannibal Vine seed had suddenly dried out. Lu Li gently pressed on it, breaking it, then brought out his other seeds.

These Cannibal Vine seeds were valuable items, but they weren’t hard to find. They were in no way as important as the World Tree seed.

Lu Li’s ambition had grown quickly; he wanted to plant a World Tree.

The Tree of Knowledge could summon other trees in the forest to fight for its master, so what about the World Tree?

No one had done such a thing before, and neither had anyone dared to dream about it. Most people wouldn’t hang around to die anyway if they saw the World Tree collapsing. Lu Li was just an exception.

If it wasn’t for the fact that he had already given up his will to live and waited to the last moment, he wouldn’t have looted this seed either.

He was still almost two levels higher than Lonesome Flower, who was at second place on the level rankings. He could afford to lose some experience, but it was someone else, they probably wouldn’t risk it.

Of course, it wouldn’t be easy to plant the World Tree.

There were a total of three World Trees in this world – Nordrassil, Teldrassil and Vordrassil. Their seeds originated from G’Hanir, the mother tree of Azeroth, who was guarded by the guardian Crow Demigod Avena who had fallen in the Ancient War.

In the Ancient War, the Well of Eternity fell apart. Illidan refused to give up his magic powers and used seven special bottles to contain the holy water from the well before it exploded. These bottles of holy water were then poured into a little lake.

With the help of Cenarius, Malfurion locked Illidian inside a large underground cellar.

The Life Bringer Alexstrasza planted a World Tree seed in the center of the new Well of Eternity. With the help of her magic powers, the seed grew into a new World Tree, Nordrassil.

This was the only World Tree in Azeroth.

Its growth was thanks to Illidan, or at least a part of it was thanks to Illidan. Without the seven bottles of holy water, there wouldn’t be a new World Tree.

Lu Li couldn’t find the holy water from the Well of Eternity, so there was no way that he could grow a giant tree like Nordrassil. However, he didn’t need a massive tree like that either. He just needed some kind of defense for the basement of the guild that would eventually be built.

The World Tree had to be a stronger choice than the Tree of Knowledge, right?

Lu Li actually wanted to plant both of them, as this would greatly improve their defense. No matter who came or what race they were, it would be a guaranteed one-way ticket for them.

He only kept the seed from the Tree of Knowledge and offered all his other seeds to the World Tree seed.

Lu Li thought that this might be another way to plant it, since he didn’t have any holy water. However, the way that this seed devoured other seeds was quite strange – he just hoped that he wouldn’t end up planting a demonic tree.

In order to supply nutrients for the tree seed, Lu Li gave out a guild quest to collect seeds from other plants. He also hung up the same quest in the Mercenary Hall and he didn’t put a limit to it.

When Azure Sea Breeze came, Lu Li didn’t hide it either – he showed the seed to him.

The man was truly shameless; he wouldn’t let go of it when he saw it. If Lu Li wasn’t there to stop him, he definitely would’ve swallowed it. Based on his theory, he thought that something like this might give him a hundred levels if he ate it.
